Spotlight Clay

I sculpt in clay which dries naturally and doesn't need to be kiln fired to achieve a hard and durable finish.  Commonly described as 'air dry clay' it has different qualities to kiln dried pottery and is an excellent medium for sculptural and decorative pieces.

Finishes

The clay is sealed with artists gesso and painted in artist quality acrylics before being given two coats of varnish to ensure a more durable finish. Sealing and protecting them in this way ensures they are resistant to moisture.

Because the finished pieces are not fired, they are designed for internal decorative display only as a piece of art and like all other ceramics and pottery should be treated with care to avoid chips and breakages.  Designed originally to be displayed using a small stand or easel I have also now begun including an option to wall hang the pieces.

Themes - Cottages

All of the clay tiles and the miniature cottages in the current collection are inspired by the variety of architecture and quirkiness of UK homes. Inspired through my visits to many villages and towns across the UK they are all done in miniature which I think adds to their charm.

Themes - Northern Mills

The Mills in the North collection features a number of  unique handmade miniature cotton mills and terraced houses modelled in clay and hand painted.  My mini mills are a nod to the industry and character of the northern towns and the people.  Many artists have been inspired by the northern townscapes and probably none more than L.S. Lowry.  There are currently 5 different mills I've created based on actual mills that existed in my home town of Oldham.
